Train Rides
The Strasburg Railroad is a historic operating railroad that runs train rides in vintage coaches. It's a 45-minute train ride through PA Dutch country with scenic views of Amish farmlands.
We bought tickets in the first-class parlor. There are many other options including dining cars, open air, or even a murder mystery and train robbery cars. But the first-class seats looked the most comfortable to me and it was air-conditioned, which was a must for us in the 90-some degree weather.
Our tickets also gave my son unlimited rides on the Cranky Car, a hand propelled car. Here is my son in action.
Railroad Museum of PA
Directly across the street from the railroad station is the Railroad Museum of PA. We bought a combo ticket with our train ride which gave us a small discount. Inside the museum are rows and rows of trains, some of which you can even get inside or at least look inside to see how the trains were historically used.
There were educational and interactive opportunities for the kids like shoveling coal into the train.
The museum has an outside yard of parked trains as well. It was so hot that we didn't spend a lot time exploring the outside trains but we did view a few of them.
