Meadowlands NJ State Fair

I first went to the Meadowlands NJ State Fair 9 years ago with my husband, my then boyfriend.  It was a trip down memory lane to go for the second time, this time with 2 kids in tow.

We went on "Wacky Wednesday" when they were having "Cheap Cheap Night."  There were a lot of kid-friendly attractions that I don't remember seeing the last time I went, but it could have been that I wasn't looking either since I didn't have kids back then.  There was a circus, pig race, magic show, elephant and camel rides, and a petting zoo.

L thought it was too loud at the petting zoo
Dad won L a Green Lantern doll.  Dad was especially motivated to win one after the first two $5 dollar attempts at basketball throws went foul and L's lip started to quiver because he wanted Green Lantern.

L happy and dad looking relieved that he didn't disappoint L
And $20 later....I won L a big yellow monkey.  Don't even ask.  I still can't believe I spent that much to win that thing.

L certainly got his sugar fix.  Here he is slurping up the rest of that Icee.

P got to enjoy a nice view from the comforts of her stroller.  There wasn't much for her to do but to be a spectator.  Luckily, she was happily entertained.

I love all things fried.  We enjoyed some zeppoles, double-sized corn dogs and fries.  I did want some fried snickers but was already feeling the weight of our "dinner."

Okay so we don't normally pay for these type of things but she was supposed to be the "Smallest Person in the World" under 29 inches and with size 2 shoes.  We couldn't resist our curiosity after seeing the facial expressions of other people.  There was indeed a real person in the booth but I felt bad afterwards that she was part of the "freak show" and that I was contributing to it.

L is into swords lately and really wanted this sword that lights up after seeing another kid with it....so we caved and got him one.  I guess we made up for cheap entrance fees on the games and toys.

By the end of the evening P was out like a light....

....L on the other hand was just getting started on his cotton candy.

We didn't go on any rides but between the carnival food, playing games and watching the shows, it was a fun time.
