An Educational Day at Liberty Science Center

My sister and I met up at Liberty Science Center for what I thought was going to be a 2 hour visit, but we ended up staying for 4 hours!  There was a lot for the kids to see and do and we didn't see everything.

We started in the I Explore gallery, which is geared for 2-5 year olds.  The kids spent an entire hour there painting with water, rocking it out on a rock xylophone, launching balls, playing with rice, recording themselves to view online later, and then participated in an activity where they learned about different types of homes and then made a teepee.

In the Infection Connection section, my niece volunteered to participate in a "I Want to be a Surgeon" demonstration where she was the nurse assisting in an operation.  We learned about infections, sterilization and the process of surgery as the kids performed a surgery on a banana.  It was humorous and educational!

There was a traveling exhibit called Math Midway where the kids learned about mathematical concepts.  Bending mirrors, a harmonograph, square-wheeled tricycles, a large tessellation mat were just a few of the exhibits.  Everything was hands-on and challenged the kids to problem solve or question why or how.

I'd like to return again.  There was a lot to see and learn, even for adults.  There was even a laboratory where the kids can conduct epidemiology experiments (that perked the former epidemiologist in me)!
