I found this "Pojang Geem" product at the Korean mart awhile back and recently decided to give it go. It's a mold with dried seaweed sheets that enables you to make triangle-shaped kimbap (Korean seaweed rice rolls) with individual cellophane wrapping, perfect for little hands or on-the-go eating.
Directions:
1. Place the triangle mold on the seaweed sheet (on top of the cellophane sheet) and fill loosely half-way with rice and top with filling (see note below for filling suggestions).
2. Cover loosely with more rice and use the lid to press down lightly on the rice mixture to make the mold 2/3 full.
3. Remove the mold and fold the bottom half of the seaweed and cellophane up to cover the rice. Use the enclosed stickers to roll up the sides of the cellophane and tape the sides closed.
4. To open package, peel down from the top (red arrow) all the way around and then remove the sides of cellophane.
5. Eat and enjoy!
This would be perfect for kid's lunchboxes and day trips when you want something that's easy to transport and eat as you go. It was so quick and easy to make and just a matter of deciding what filling to put inside. The seaweed is roasted but not salted, so rice alone would be a little plain. I made it with bulgogi and the kids loved it!
Filling suggestions (I would suggest a combination of these):
bulgogi (Korean bbq ribeye)
sauteed veggies (carrots, spinach)
fried rice
surimi (imitation crab)
thin slices of egg omelet
fried spam
Let me know you favorite filling suggestion!
I have been looking everywhere for the seaweed! It sounds delicious but I can't find it at my local Korean grocery market (H mart) T-T. Where did you buy it?
ReplyDeleteHi. Actually, I found it at H-mart in the geem section.
