Pumpkin Picking

Recently we went pumpkin picking at Secor Farms.  Last year we went pumpkin picking at Demarest Farms, which is closer to us but overall I prefer Secor Farms.  Here are my thoughts on the pros/cons of each farm specific to our pumpkin picking experience.

Secor Farms:
PROS:
1. has a larger play/wander area for kids with a bunch of cute props for photos

2. has a tractor out front that my son LOVED (this was his favorite part!)

3. has FREE hayrides and you pay per pound for the pumpkin you pick

4. has a corn maze

5. has a small petting zoo (albeit small)

6. larger pumpkin patch that also has props for photos

CONS:
1. not many offerings in their store, mostly produce from their farm (but you can pack your own lunch and eat at their picnic tables)
2. further away (from NYC)

Demarest Farms:
PROS:
1. closer (to NYC)
2. larger selection of items in their store including homemade cider donuts, jams/jellies, ice cream, salad bar and on weekends they grill outdoors
3. face painting for kids

CONS:
1. CROWDED! (though they have attendants to help you park).  The facility seems smaller.
2. small and limited play area for kids
3. $5 admission including hayride and $7 pumpkin (this could be a pro depending on how large your pumpkin is)
4. have to cross a street to get to the hayride
